Your Conversions Will Drop In 2008, unless…

Posted by Mike Filsaime December 27, 2007 9:25 pm

You want to read this. It is time to start lowering your prices and offering even more value to win in the coming months.

But before your RUN and knee-jerk react to what I am saying, make sure to read the entire blog post. It could have a MAJOR impact on your business if you UNDERSTAND this going into 2008.

The economy is in a funk. Here is the US, there is no doubt about it.

The War in Iraq has the US Gov’t printing money like Parker Bros. does for monopoly.

And every day our dollar gets weaker in the Global economy.

That means higher shipping prices and higher prices over all.

Compound that with Banks on the run and foreclosure ratings nearing and all time high… the bottom line is this:

TIMES WILL BE BAD FOR A WHILE>>> VERY BAD

You see, people could always go back to the well. Rate were at 5.9% and you could refinance and get $100k, $80, $20k, $50K…

Over and over… and this money went RIGHT BACK into the economy. Right into HOME DEPOT, plumbers, fences, contractors, roofing, vacations, and yes… even YOUR products and services.

Now… The well has run dry. There is no where else to run. People will now realize there is no were else to get that easy money.

And now, there will be a HUGE trickle down effect as well.

And you will see it in less people buying your products. PERIOD. If you have no money or are losing your job or house, you are less likely to spend any money you have!

So YOUR CONVERSION WILL SUFFER…

But, THERE IS AN UPSIDE…if you market in the B2B or “Internet Marketing” or Home based Biz world.

You see, when the WELL GOES DRY, more and more people will be flocking to online marketing.

So you may still see the same number of sales every day. It will be because you are going to see even MORE people coming into online marketing. So you may have your conversion rate got from 3% to 1% but you may see your site visitors go from 30 per day to 90 per day. At the end of the day, if we are lucky, we may just make the same amount of money ONLY because there will be more people coming into the market.

BUT.. HOW CAN YOU INCREASE BUSINESS knowing this information.

My advice to you is to provide MORE FREE CONTENT.

People will be looking more and more for GOOD QUALITY CONTENT on starting an online business. They just want have that EASY AS PIE disposable income that they once might have had. They will be flocking to people that offer FREE content and at good usable quality as well.

But it should not stop there. Consider your pricing strategy. Normal I would tell you to raise your prices and just offer more value. But with the economy taking a sharp turn, I think if you win in all ways as for as a better product/rvice with the best support, and combine that with a competitive pricing structure, your legion of fans from your FREE content will be more likely to becoming LOYAL LIFETIME CUSTOMERS.

And remember, your competition is not giving out any good free content. And he/she is not paying attention to the fact that it will not be easy for people buy at an impulse anymore.

People in the marketplace will be thinking a lot more about the risk before they make purchases. If you keep this blog post in mind over the next year and until we see a new spike in the economy, it can really help you to capitalize on INCREASED MARKET SAHRE AND PROFITS while while many will be singing the retail blues.

Thanks,

Mike Filsaime

    Hi Mike,

Give-aways have always been an excellent way to build trust & comfort with customers. Where I see the ball getting dropped is still a real lack out there (particularly with affiliutes) in the way of harvesting visitors properly, in spite of all the material we have done (your, Russell’s, Armands, & ours). I still see affiliates sending traffic straight to hoplinks.

I also still see affiliates out there that dont email the sales they refer, another opportunity to harvest and build confidence in the buyer.

it is amazing just how far we all have come in this whole IM affiliate marketing thing since we first spoke what is it 5 or 6 years ago? Long way from the car dealerships for sure :>)

Rick and I had our best year ever too, and we have managed to near double each year for 4 years.

Anyway, it is nice to see all is going so well, and the advice in here is evidently well received.

Hopw to see you at the next events, I will have Rick in tow. Looks like I will be doing some speaking this time round the circuit, likely on mitigating refunds with the system we devloped this year, possibly on Social Bookmarking as well, we shall see.

    Cheers,

The best-looking and most humble bald guy in affiliate marketing #;>)

    You Know Mike,
The more people who figure this out for themselves, the better off they will be.

People have been hearing “The Money Is In The List” for soo long, but they never grasped the concept of taking care of their investment. They don’t ever want to send you and free information, they just send you promotion after promotion.

They hook you into giving them your email address in exchange for free marketing information, but it’s usually a one time thing.
You get that free report that they promised, and never get anymore quality information from them ever again.

Some People Just Can’t seem to put 2 and 2 together, and they are simply in it for the greed.

Whilst the economy will suffer in the long term, it will nonetheless devalue the Original Authors works by either giving them away for free ( some Authors specify that that cannot be done) and on the other hand, for products which have cost the consumer considerable sums to acquire would leave the feeling that the product does not deserve the acclaimed review it so justly deserves.
There are a number of free articles in the public domain and I am sure that people can benefit from the wealth of knowledge they can accumulate after reviewing the associated policies governing that site. It would be impractical to under value a “Hot Item” which has just come out onto the market and sell it for less or give it away for free. The snowball effect of doing this will mean that most if not all existing buyers will lose faith within that niche and you will lose them and their business for life.
It is admirable to think that we can all join together like we did during the second world war period but the reality doesn’t fit our time period. Fund raising events to help those who are stricken in a time of crisis is something we can all engage into but we must be pragmatic in our approach.

    Hi Mike,

I do totally agree about giving away more free content.
It’s a huge powerful method and it really works!

Oh, I forgot, thanks for the updates for the upcoming workshop.

    Hope to see you soon.

    Warm regards,
    Elitsa

Mike you are right on target as usual. But then again, you have been giving away great free stuff for a long time now. More power to you, and thanks again.

In addition to giving things away, I find it important to make sure that there is a large dispersion of information about my client sites. I use Artemis Pro to spread articles – I don’t email any list unless it is opt-in and comes directly from the client – I have taken to using video laced with keywords to get visits to the customers. You are spot on, people have to see the value of the free stuff.
How many sites these days give away freebies WAY beyond the value of the items purchased.

Thanks for this brilliant info! Another great post, as usual, Mike! =)
This is so true. You need to go with the flow, whatever directio it’s going to be able to stay on top of things.

Great post Mike. I’ve been looking at it the same way, marketing
evolves around the economy, and with more people joining in with
the internet to make or save money, conversions depends on that
fact. It’s like price fluctuation, it will be shifting for the bad and
it will be shifting for the good, you just have to adapt to it…

    Hey Mike,

I believe you hit the nail on the head my friend!

More and more people are looking for the FREE stuff more than the product or services.

Therefore, that is what I have been giving. I give people the “How To” in my newsletter and build a friendship so when they do decide to pursue the online venture of Network marketing then they will buy from or join me.

I figure it is much easier to get a friend to partner with you rather a stranger.

    Catch you later,

    Bill Shultz

    Hi Mike,

You are 110% correct! I have found that the more “free stuff” I give away, the MORE money I make!

It was tough at first to get into that mindset. My friends and family couldn’t understand why I spent so much time working on things I was just going to give away!

Thanks for validating one of my favorite Internet marketing techniques!
